Books, Libraries, and Modern War
December 5, 2008
9:15am- 5:30pm
McKeldin Library, Room 6137
Books and libraries have suffered grievously from war in modern times, but wars have also stimulated reading and publishing. Wars destroy libraries but they also fill libraries. In this daylong symposium, scholars from the University of Maryland and elsewhere will consider how books and libraries have fared in wartime in various parts of the world from World War I to the present.
